Unlike South Yorkshire And West Yorkshire, East Yorkshire is covered by a single authority, East Riding Of Yorkshire Council. They hold responsibility for dealing with the waste processing for residents across the region as part of the services paid for by council tax.

East Riding Of Yorkshire council operate bin collections across the county, and in addition run ten Household Waste Recycling Centres for the use of residents to dispose of excess rubbish.

The green bin for residents of East Riding of Yorkshire is the one you might hear referred to as general waste. When it comes to what goes into the green bin, it’s best to think of it as everything that cannot be recycled in other bins.

The green bin is for non recyclables in East Riding of Yorkshire. You should use it for anything that cannot be recycled in your recyclables blue bin, or garden and food waste brown bin.

It might be confusing to learn that food can go into the same brown bin as your garden waste. That’s because it can all be composted together at the council’s facilities for re-use in the future as a fertiliser, both by the council and given away to residents for use in gardens.

The brown bin is for green garden waste in East Riding of Yorkshire. You should use it for green grass clippings, pruning and leaves, plus branches up to 2 inches thick. Leftover food waste can also go into the bin too.

The blue bin for residents of East Riding of Yorkshire is for all other recycling that’s collected by the council. Broadly, that includes:
