Directions to Ashbourne Tip

From Ashbourne

From the A515 in the middle of Ashbourne, follow Buxton Road for a short time, turning left onto Union Street (signposted Callow Hall). Turn left onto Belle Vue Road, watching for the speed calming measures along a narrow stretch of road.

As the road becomes Dark Lane, follow the one way section to the junction and turn right onto Mayfield Road. You’ll find the entrance to the recycling centre at the end of the road just before you reach the roundabout. You may find that at busy times it’s easier to go all the way around the roundabout, as turning right can be tricky with cars coming quickly from the A52 in the opposite direction.

From Derby

If you’re approaching from the direction of Derby, use the A52 towards Ashbourne. Continue on the A52 at the Waterways roundabout where you’ll see Homebase on your right, and pass Aldi on your left. Turn right (the 2nd exit) towards Ashbourne at the next roundabout, also signposted Carsington Water and Dovedale, then immediately turn left into the Ashbourne recycling centre.

From Leek

Approaching the Ashbourne HWRC from the opposite direction along the A52 means you’re heading in the direction of Derby and away from Leek. As you approach Ashbourne on the A52, you’ll see ‘The Lilacs’ bed and breakfast on your right, and shortly afterwards the exit to the tip is visible on your left. You can’t access the site from there – you need to continue to the roundabout, and take the first exit, staying tight to the left hand side as you’ll need to immediately turn left as you come off the roundabout into the dump site.

Please be aware that in the summer months, the A52 is a major route towards Alton Towers, one of the UKs most popular theme parks. For that reason, it may be wise to plan your visit to the HWRC accordingly. Traffic tends to be heavier than normal westbound from Derby towards Leek in the morning, and in the opposite direction towards the end of the day.

You can find opening hours for the theme park here. Visitors tend to pass Ashbourne in noticeable numbers from around 8.30am in the morning, and from about an hour before the park closes in the afternoon.
