Kirklees operates five council Household Waste Recycling Centres, or HWRCs for short. Most of us call them dumps or tips. They’re operated by Kirklees Council’s contractor Suez on behalf of residents and are strategically located around the region for households to use.

Summer and winter hours change when the clocks go forward and back, so summer hours typically begin in late March when we move to British Summer Time (BST) and winter hours resume in late October when we return to Greenwich Mean Time (GMT).
The above opening schedule operates all year round, with the exception of Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day, when all sites will remain closed.

Kirklees Tips And Bank Holiday Opening
Kirklees HWRC sites are some of the most consistently opening in the country, remaining open on most Bank Holidays. The only days they close are Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day.
While there will inevitably be times when they may have to close for maintenance work or repairs to be carried out, with the exception of December 25th, December 26th and January 1st, they’re open every day of the year under normal circumstances.

Kirklees Council HWRC Permits
As part of the services you get access to living the Kirklees region, households can register two cars to access the tips.
While you are required to register vehicles to gain access, there is no requirement to actually display a permit when you visit. This is achieved electronically at each site, so simply registering your vehicle (or vehicles) is sufficient.
You may be able to register vehicles larger than a standard family car for taking rubbish to HWRC locations, however you will probably be required to prove that it is being registered to drop off residential waste, as commercial waste is not accepted at the tips.
