There are five tips that are run by Calderdale council for residents in their area. The Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) are spread around Calderdale to give good coverage across the region.

As you can see in the table above, Sunday hours vary between the summer and winter months. The summer timetable runs when the clocks go forward in the spring (usually late March), and revert to winter hours when the clocks return to GMT in the autumn (usually late October).
In addition, Calderdale tips are closed on three days a year – 1st January (New Year’s Day), 25th December (Christmas Day) and 26th December (Boxing Day).

Halifax HWRC
Finding The Lee Bank HWRC
The Halifax tip is situated north of the centre of the town, accessible by heading north on the A629 Ovenden Road. Exit at the Wheatley and Mixenden junction, taking a left at the traffic lights into Shroggs Road. Take the first left back under the A629, keeping left to turn back under the bridge onto Lee Bank. Pass by the HGV exit and site exit, and the entrance is on the right hand side.

Finding The Atlas Mill Road HWRC
The Brighouse tip is close to the centre of the town, head out of town on Briggate onto the A643 over the River Calder. Follow the bend around to the right, then turn right onto Bridge Road. Turn left onto Atlas Mill Road, and you’ll find the Suez tip at the end of the road.

Finding The Huddersfield Road HWRC
The Elland tip is located near the M62 junction with the A629 Huddersfield Road. Coming from the M62 direction, leave the motorway at Junction 24, following the Elland and Halifax A629 signs. Head under the motorway bridge and continue to the first exit, taking the slip road down to the roundabout. Take a left, signposted Elland, Greetland and Stainland.
On Elland Riorges Link, continue through the traffic lights, continuing ahead at the roundabout. Go left at the roundabout onto Huddersfield Road, passing between Aldi and the Texaco garage. You’ll find the tip a little further ahead on the right hand side.

Finding The Mearclough HWRC
The Sewerby Bridge Suez tip in south west Halifax is best reached from Station Road. Head out of the centre past the swimming pool, then turn left under the railway bridge onto Holmes Road.
Pass the train station on your right, and keep going as Holmes Road becomes Mearclough Road. You’ll see the tip on your right hand side as the road ends.

The Todmorden tip is found between Todmorden and Hebdon Bridge. As you head out of Todmorden on the A646 Halifax Road, continue ahead until you can turn directly into the tip on the right hand side of the main road as you read Eastwood.

Calderdale Tips And Bank Holiday Opening
All sites in the Calderdale Council area follow a simple opening schedule for bank holidays. Regardless of the day the bank holiday falls on, they open on Sunday hours (still following summer or winter times accordingly).
The only exceptions are Christmas Day on 25th December, Boxing Day on 26th December and New Year’s Day on January 1st, when each year all sites are closed.
